Classes Offered
Please note that if there are insufficient registrations for a class, it may be combined with another class or offered as a semi-private.
Primary
This class is aimed towards dancers ages 3-6. We will work on basic positions and movements required for highland dance, but also incorporate fun dance games, and foundations of dance such as expression, flexibility, and creativity. We will begin to learn dances including 16 Pas de Basque, Pas de Basque and Highcuts, the Highland Fling, and Sword Dance.
Beginner
This class is aimed towards dancers ages 7+. The new beginner class will focus on basic positions and movements which make up each highland dance. We will also delve into exercises for strength, flexibility, and injury prevention. Dancers will learn traditional dances including the Highland Fling, Sword Dance, Seann Triubhas, Scottish Lilt, and Flora MacDonald’s Fancy.
Pre-Premier
Dancers in this class must have experience. The primary focus will be on improving technique and stamina, learning new steps and dances relevant to their standard and goals. Dancers will also learn fun choreography dances as a break from the traditional dances!
Private or Semi-Private Lessons
These classes are available for those who wish to have more individualized feedback to help further their dancing skills. For example, in preparation for an upcoming competition. These are offered on a casual basis. Dancers must be registered in a group class to request a private or semi-private lesson.
Training for Professional Exams or the RSOBHD Judges Test
I offer individualized training and mentorship for dancers and teachers preparing for the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance (SDTA) Professional Examinations and the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD) Judges Test. Sessions are tailored to the candidate’s experience and goals, with in-person and online options available. Please contact me for more information.
